Yes, I am a paintaholic! Every project I complete gives me such a feeling of accomplishment and pride. It’s a lot of work but my favorite thing to do is take an ugly old piece of décor or furniture and repurpose it into a functional piece of art. I like to think of it as a “rescue mission” for each one!
In 2012 I painted my first piece of furniture using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. It was for my sister and a 2-piece hutch that was a wedding present from my parents. NO pressure?! But should we say I was addicted from the first paint stroke. In the last 12 years I have experienced and used many paint finishes, paint brushes, paint techniques, primers and a whole lot of PAINT. After Bart's Flea Market closed I needed a place to sell my products and painted furniture. It brought me to my current home at The Curiosity Shoppe in downtown Laramie.
Besides painting I do have many loves in my life. My family means the world to me, sort of a Brady Bunch, I guess. His, mine and adopted makes a family for us. We have 6 children, our 2 youngest were adopted from Ethiopia. We cherish our 4 grandchildren and are hoping for a few more. We built our last home in 2022 and the only thing I wanted was a heated workshop. My husband has his own workshop and has brushed off all his stained-glass tools and improved his 20 year old hobby since he is retired now.
I don't paint every piece I come across. Some antiques deserve to be left alone or restored to their full beauty. I know there will always be painted furniture haters, but for me it is my happy place and something I hope to do as long as I can.
